Community Organizing
IHC actively works to create and maintain open lines
of communication with anti-hunger organizations across the state and
align organizations in the broader poverty arena.
IHC's network includes federal, state and local agencies
that administer food and nutrition programs
IHC's annual meeting provides networking opportunities
and
serves as a forum where members and supporters can renew relationships,
make new ones, share experiences, and receive technical training on issues
that affect anti-hunger work.
Members receive regularly published updates which
provide the latest information on hunger and food security issues in
Illinois and at the federal level.
IHC staff also works with member agencies and government
organizations around the state to conduct
training opportunities, attend
meetings, and make presentations on the issues of hunger, food security,
and good nutrition.

Advocacy
IHC believes that hunger and lack of food security are
socioeconomic conditions that are
caused primarily by an absence of
progressive public policy.
IHC speaks up for the rights of low-income people, empowers
individuals
by teaching leadership skills and advocates for laws and
regulations that
are designed to
alleviate hunger.
Public policy issues are routinely monitored at the
federal, state and
local
levels, and efforts are made to involve organizations
and individuals in
impacting
policy decisions.
IHC provides opportunities for individuals from our
member agencies
to
participate in the decision-making processes that
affect their lives.
