Food Stamp Requirements for Students

A student enrolled half-time or more in an institution of higher education is
ineligible for food stamps unless the student is
:

  • Under 18 years of age or over 50 years of age
  • Disabled—documented and/or receiving SSI, SSD or other disability
    compensation
  • Working at least 20 hours per week and otherwise qualifies for food stamps
  • Responsible for a child under the age of 6
  • Responsible for a child between the ages of 6-12 for whom adequate child care
    is not available to allow them to attend school and work 20 hours a week
  • Receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families)
  • Enrolled in a Job Training Program or Food Stamp Training Program
