Food Stamp Requirements for Students
A student enrolled half-time or more in an institution
of higher education is
ineligible for food stamps unless the student
is:
- Under 18 years of age or over 50 years of age
- Disabled—documented and/or receiving SSI, SSD or other disability
compensation
- Working at least 20 hours per week and otherwise qualifies for food
stamps
- Responsible for a child under the age of 6
- Responsible for a child between the ages of 6-12 for whom adequate
child care
is not available to allow them to attend school and work
20 hours a week
- Receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families)
- Enrolled in a Job Training Program or Food Stamp Training Program
