What is Kidcare and Family Care
WHAT IS KIDCARE?
KidCare is a child health insurance program that offers comprehensive
insurance to uninsured children in Illinois. KidCare covers doctor
visits, dental care, specialty medical services, hospital care, emergency
services, prescription drugs and more. The five levels of KidCare are:
1. KidCare Assist is for children from birth until their nineteenth birthday
and includes no premiums or co-payments to kids whose family income is
less than 133% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL): $2,145 or less per
month for a family of four. The Assist Program is for both insured and
uninsured children. For insured children, KidCare can be can be used
as a supplemental plan.
2. KidCare Moms and Babies is exclusively for pregnant women and children
under one year of age and does not include premiums or co-payments to
women whose income is at 200% of the FPL or less: $3,225 or less per
month for a family of four. Pregnant women are covered for the duration
of their pregnancy and for 60 days after they give birth. Pregnant women
DO NOT NEED valid social security numbers to receive KidCare Moms and
Babies.
3. KidCare Share is for children from birth until their nineteenth birthday
and includes a $2.00 per child co-payment. There is a $100.00 per year
per family cap on the amount of co-payments that can be charged. KidCare
Share is only available to children whose family income falls between
134% and 150% of the FPL: $2,146 to $2,419 per month for a family of
four.
4. KidCare Premium is for children from birth until their nineteenth
birthday and requires a $15.00 per child monthly premium capped at $30.00
per family. It also requires a $5.00 per encounter co-payment, a $3.00-$5.00
per prescription co-payment, except for well-child visits and immunizations,
and a $25.00 charge for non-emergency use of a hospital Emergency Room.
KidCare Premium is only available to children whose family income falls
between 151% and 200% of the FPL: $2,420 to $3,225 per month for a family
of four.
5. KidCare Rebate is for any family that already has health insurance
and whose family income is between 134% and 200% of the FPL: $2,146 to
$3,225 per month for a family of four.
WHAT IS FAMILYCARE?
FamilyCare offers health insurance to parents living with their children
18 years old or younger. FamilyCare also covers relatives who are caring
for children in place of their parents. FamilyCare covers the same services
as KidCare.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR KIDCARE/FAMILYCARE?
To receive KidCare/FamilyCare, an applicant must be an Illinois resident,
be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (LPR) parents or guardians
must be LPRs for more than five years), and meet the following income
eligibility requirements:
