School Breakfast Program
The School Breakfast Program is for Every Child!
School Breakfast Program is:
* A way for hungry children to receive breakfast at school each morning,
* A way for children to start every school day without the pain of hunger,
* A federally funded program that all children have a right to in America.
Did you know in Illinois…?
* Only 27.7% of children who eat lunch at school receive a breakfast,
* Illinois ranks 49th in the United States for School Breakfast Program
use,
* A low-income family with three children whom takes part in a School
Breakfast
Program can save an estimated $70 a month on household food
costs.
Research proves that students who benefit from a School Breakfast Program:
* Perform better overall in class,
* Are more alert,
* Have fewer reports of stomachaches, headaches, and visits to the school
nurse,
* Have lower rates of school tardiness, absenteeism, and suspension,
* Have lower rates of behavioral disorders including aggression, hyperactivity,
anxiety, and passivity.
Children who are Hungry each school morning CAN NOT learn as readily
as children
who receive a healthy breakfast.
* Hungry children score low on math scores,
* Hungry children are more likely to need to repeat a school grade.
Why should the School Breakfast Program Be in your child’s
school?
* So that parents know their child is receiving a healthy breakfast each
school day,
* So that a child is not held back from realizing their full potential
in school and the community,
* The School Breakfast Program is vital, necessary, and a successful
plan when put into action.
