Anti-Hunger Action: Established by IHC in 1999 as a
grassroots collaborative of organizations working to end hunger and its
causes in Chicago land
through creative strategies, AHA is composed of more than 50 groups
such as faith-based organizations, food pantries, food banks and concerned
individuals. AHA meets regularly with the Secretary and administrators
of IDHS and has piloted several projects aimed at improving service
in IDHS local offices and access to food stamps and health insurance
and other public benefits, such as the Community Quality Councils (CQCs).
AHA meets:
2nd Friday of every month

Community Quality Councils: Led by IHC, AHA established CQCs in ten
IDHS local offices throughout the Chicago Metropolitan area. The
CQCs are
regular meetings among community groups, hungry people, AHA, and
staff and management from IDHS local offices. The purpose of the
CQCs is
to build relationships, increase understanding of and access to food
stamps,
and ensure that policies are being adhered to at the local offices.
The meetings have been instrumental in improving service at local offices
and establishing collaborative relationships between local office
staff and anti-hunger providers.
